Achieving smart city indicators is one of the most important issues that are raised in order to achieve urban sustainability. One of the ways to make it easier to achieve smart city indicators is that due to the unknown nature of this field, you can get help from start-ups. Startups are new businesses that are created to solve a problem or create an innovation. Although many start-ups fail at the beginning, but due to their innovative nature and new thinking, they can be a pioneer in reaching the indicators of a smart city and as a result achieving urban sustainability. Thus, this research seeks to investigate the efficiency of urban smart start-ups in Iran to achieve urban sustainability and to reduce the existing problems in this field by providing suggestions. This research is of applied type and its method is descriptive-analytical. A case sample was selected for the study of the questionnaire using the snowball method, and examples of successful start-ups in the fields of urban smartness in Iran are introduced to check the efficiency. In order to check the rate of efficiency, firstly, using the method of synthesis, the studied indicators were identified in six areas of the smart city (transportation, governance, environment, people, life and economy) and they were identified using risk factor analysis. The six factors are determined and then the efficiency of start-ups in achieving sustainability is checked using the single-sample T-test. Mobility, governance and smart life in Iran are in stable conditions and have reached a suitable efficiency, but in the fields of environment, people and smart economy, there is still a long way to reach sustainability.
